What happens instead
Tell Parentech the channel, the video, or the word. A blocked video shows a full-screen notice and stays paused no matter how many times they press play. A blocked channel or word disappears from the home feed, the search results and the sidebar, so it isn't there to click. Block the video you're looking at from the toolbar, or from your phone.
Exactly what it does
- Blocks a video by its link or its 11-character ID. Opening it shows the notice and pauses the player.
- Blocks a channel by name or @handle, and hides its videos from the feed, search and the sidebar.
- Blocks any word in a title, and hides matching videos everywhere they would appear.
- Adds the video you are watching with one tap from the toolbar popup, then asks for the PIN.
- Takes several channels or words at once, separated by commas.
Setting it up
Three steps.

Open the YouTube section in Parentech, or on parentech.app from your phone.

Paste a video link, type a channel or @handle, or type a word. Several at once is fine.

On the child's Chrome, open a video and tap "Block this video" in the toolbar to add it on the spot.
What it will not do
Said plainly.
- It works on youtube.com in Chrome, not in the YouTube app on a phone or television.
- A channel is matched by name, so a channel that renames itself needs adding again.
- YouTube changes its page often. Parentech fails safe: if YouTube moves something, the worst case is a video reappears, never a broken page.
Questions parents ask
Before you install.
- Is this different from YouTube Restricted Mode?
- Yes. Restricted Mode filters what YouTube considers mature. Parentech blocks the specific channels, videos and words you choose, whatever YouTube thinks of them, and hides them from the feed and search too.
- What happens when my child opens a blocked video?
- A full-screen notice says the video is blocked and why. The player stays paused, even if they press play or reload.
- Can I block a whole channel?
- Yes. Enter its name or @handle. Its videos disappear from the home feed, search results and the sidebar, and open to the blocked notice if reached by a direct link.
- How is this different from blocking the word in search?
- The search filter stops a search from running. The YouTube block list hides videos whose titles contain the word, wherever YouTube would have shown them. Use both for a word you never want near them.
