What happens instead
Put the site on the list and it does not open on that Chrome. No warning, no timer in the corner, no "are you sure". The page is a wall that says it's blocked and to ask a parent. Your kid can see the list. Only your PIN changes it. Only your PIN opens a site, for fifteen minutes or an hour, and then it shuts again by itself.
Exactly what it does
- Blocks the site and every page under it, including subdomains, before it loads. No content, no ads, nothing to be pulled back into.
- Keeps sign-in pages working, so blocking YouTube does not break signing in to Gmail with a school account.
- Lets a parent open one site for 15 minutes or an hour by entering the PIN on the blocked page. It locks itself again.
- Offers the usual suspects with one tap: YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, Roblox, Discord, Reddit, Twitch, Netflix.
- Syncs the list to every Chrome in the family, and takes changes from your phone within half a minute.
Setting it up
Three steps.

Open Parentech on the child's Chrome and enter your PIN, or open parentech.app on your phone.

Type a site, or tap one of the suggestions. It is blocked the moment you add it.

When a site should open for a while, enter your PIN on the blocked page and choose 15 minutes or an hour.
What it will not do
Said plainly.
- It blocks Chrome on the computer it is installed on. A different browser, a phone or a tablet is outside its reach.
- A child with administrator rights on the computer could remove the extension. Give them their own account without those rights.
- It does not report which pages were visited. It blocks the door; it does not watch the room.
Questions parents ask
Before you install.
- Can my child turn it off?
- Not without your PIN. Removing a site, opening a blocked one and changing any setting all need the six-digit PIN, and the dashboard locks the moment it is closed. The one thing outside Parentech's reach is Chrome's own extensions page, which is why the child should not have administrator rights on the computer.
- What does my child see?
- A plain page that says the site is blocked and to ask a parent. No error message, no browser warning, no ads.
- Can I unblock a site just for tonight?
- Yes. On the blocked page, tap "I'm a parent", enter your PIN, and choose 15 minutes or an hour. You can do the same from your phone. Either way it blocks itself again afterwards.
- Does it work on a Chromebook?
- Yes. Parentech is a Chrome extension and runs on Chromebooks, Windows and Mac.
- Will blocking YouTube break Google Classroom?
- No. Parentech leaves sign-in pages open, because Google's login passes through a YouTube address on the way into Classroom and Gmail. Blocking YouTube blocks the videos, not the sign-in.
